see the blocks on the right and bottom for various weather info.
WindMapper (a new site).
Weather Network - A quick snapshot of the upcoming week. Great to keep an eye on to even think of what days may be good.
NavCanada Flight Planning - Click on the "Ontario" radio button and scroll down to find "Toronto". Good for checking winds at various levels as well as wind directions.
ADDS - Easy to use and understand for wind direction. Just choose the altitude and time from the drop-down menus and look at the map!
Steve B's Weather Prediction Formula
- Weather.com for big picture (are we even thinking of flying?)
- ADDS for more specific winds at various heights and times (dial in altitude at 3 or 6k, times are 4h fwd)
- Here for surface winds (where we land and take off...these are important too)
- The doctor tells us whether we have a soaring prescription or a sinking one but you'll need to sign in to Dr Jack and use the regional viewer then click insert map. 18z is the default (2 pm our time). Look at the b/s ratio too and get happy when there's a high b/s ratio.
- Back to ADDS to see if there's any big scuzzy stuff that can shut down the party. Use satellite link and back up a few hours (doesn't work in the dark...only daytime)
