For a number of months the team at NAV CANADA has been working to complete all the requisite paperwork, gather the approvals, and get the charting changes compiled and submitted. NAV CANADA AIS is responsible for the development and publication of all our Canadian Aeronautical data. They have been working to make all the required changes and they have also developed a planning chart on the reverse side of the Toronto VTA that I think you will all be impressed with.
March 12th 2009 is fast approaching, and things are on track to implement the changes derived through the Recreational & Flight Training consultation panel. We are asking for your assistance with the following:
- Help spread the word about the upcoming changes
- Publish an article in your newsletter or distribute it to your membership outlining the changes (We are preparing one for distribution)
- Help by advertising and/or hosting a Briefing session in your area
The changes which will occur on March 12th 2009 include:
- Control Zones boundary changes
-
- Buttonville
- Downsview
- Hamilton
- London
- Toronto City Centre
The Toronto VNC and VTA charts are in their final stages of amendment and are scheduled to be printed and distributed before March 12th. We are expecting them to be available at your retailer around March 1st, and you will be updated as we get more information.
As many of you are aware, two years ago NAV CANADA and Transport Canada worked together to conduct briefings pertaining to VFR and IFR operations in the Greater Toronto Area. We have again teamed up, and Wil Boles from TC Safety Intelligence or Kurtis Arnold will be in contact very shortly to see about scheduling seminars in your area. Attached is a table with the areas we are currently planning to conduct briefings. You will be provided updated copies as the dates and venues are selected.
The briefing will be approximately 90 minutes in length and will review a number of CADORS then move on to cover the airspace changes, and discuss preferred pilot practices in the context of communication and airmanship. Because of our joint involvement, this will be a currency seminar and log book validation will be available to those who attend the complete briefing.
From an IFR design stand-point we’ve been busy at the ACC assembling teams and starting to develop a new Traffic Management strategy. We are in early stages of concept development now, and expect to be in a position in March to start sharing what will hopefully be promising traffic management strategies.
Next Steps:
We will be in touch with many of you in the coming weeks to discuss implementation publications and briefings. If you have any questions or suggestions, please forward them to Rob Bishop or Duncan Campbell.
NAV CANADA would like to host a web conference after implementation to gather your feedback, and share some of the progress with the IFR design phase before the summer. A working date for that web-conference is June 3rd, details to follow.
Looking into the fall; we are anticipating scheduling a Recreational & Flight Training consultation session for the purpose of examining possible airspace changes to compliment the new IFR Design. Tentatively we are looking at dates the week of October 5th.
