Scooter is DONE!

in

The scooter is 100% done. A HUGE thanks to John Pop - here is a happy pic of us minutes after we finished it up tonight

The Scooter CrewThe Scooter Crew

I hope everyone is as pro-SOGA as I am. I think possibly some members don't know how great of a crew we have. The hangar was one prime example but here is another one...

The scooter has landed...

A HUGE thanks to Ken. He took time out of his work day today to drive with me out to Concord with his van to pickup a scooter! It's a beauty! ;) A 1985 Honda 250cc...just what we were after.

Adjustments to the website

I got some feedback from a couple members about the layout of the website...thanks for that. I wish I received more feedback - good or bad, I can take it!

The nice thing about the sites I make is that they are very flexibile when it comes to rearranging things. I removed all the left 'side bar' items so now there is only one column. It simplifies things (especially the home page), makes it faster to load and fits nicer on non-wide-screen monitors.

Keep the feedback coming - otherwise I don't know what is good or bad.

Status report on WTM activities

From NavCanada:

"During the summer, three WTM aeronautical studies have been submitted to Transport Canada for review:

Review of Control Zones at Hamilton, Kitchener/Waterloo, Oshawa,

  • Toronto/Buttonville, Toronto/City Centre and Toronto/ Downsview Airports
  • Class F Airspace
  • Southern Ontario Controlled Airspace

A VFR routes system (not subject to aeronautical study) has been developed. Related changes to publications along with a new VTA for Toronto will be seen during the winter of 2009.

Sunday - Amazing Sunset Flying

We had some relatives staying with us this week and I drove them to the airport for 3PM and then burned out to the field. It looked like the best day of the year and it figures that I couldn't get out sooner.

I arrived at 4:10 and by 4:30 I was being towed up...I was on a mission to get some rare thermalling in, something I haven't had much of this year. I joined Milko in a climb and took it just shy of base at about 1700m asl and then glided around two of the turnpoints I set for the Fun Comp before landing.

Interactive maps - mapping member locations.

More new features...I've integrated Google Maps into the site. There is now a map that shows all member locations and the locations of the properties we may be considering to purchase on a single map.

These maps are private to registered users and members of the Land Search Group so no need to worry about privacy.

"Groups" enabled

I've enabled some modules to help us work on different groups. These tools on this website are better than using YahooGroups (believe me). Sure it's easy to just send off an email on topics but it get's harder and harder to manage so many groups. Studies have shown this is happening in many corporate environments...and there are better alternatives to email.

See the "New groups" section on the right column of this page for the two groups available to all members (not the general public) and signup to be a member of that group if you like.

Fun Comp Triangle

Here is the small triangle I am proposing for a GPS task for the weekend. I can't figure out how to set the zoom so just keep double-clicking on the map til it zooms in enough for you.
